External Tools

“External Tools” refers to third-party learning tool integrations that are commonly utilized by instructors of the university. McGraw-Hill Connect, Hypothesis, and the Course Readings Link are all considered external tools.



Accessing External Tools

To add an external tool select the unit or lesson you’d like to add it to, then click the Add Existing button.

You will be brought to a menu of tools and Brightspace activities that can be added. Some external tools have links directly in this view, like Pearson Link - Quicklink and Top Hat Deep Link. Other External tools can be found in the External Tool Activity button, or in More.

SCORM/xAPI Object - Allows for direct integration of a SCORM package.

Pearson Link Quicklink - Allows instructors to link to Pearson learning materials such as textbooks, quiz banks, assessments, and more.

Top Hat Deep Linking - Direct integration with Top Hat, an engagement tool that fosters real-time participation via quizzes, surveys, attendance, and more.

McGraw Hill Connect - Allows instructors to link to Connect learning materials such as textbooks, quiz banks, assessments, and more.

External Tool Activity

Course Readings - Direct integration with Ares (Brock course readings tool). Contact records@brocku.ca to learn more about setting up a course readings list and integrating it into your course site.

Etherpads - A collaborative, textual workspace. Etherpads can be embedded directly into the Content area.

Evolve Link - Allows instructors to link to Evolve learning materials such as textbooks, quiz banks, assessments, and more.

Hypothesis 1.1 - A tool used for collaborative or individual annotation of readings. Hypothesis 1.3 allows for the grading (individual and group) of annotations. To integrate Hypothesis 1.3 please contact edtech@brocku.ca

Library Research Guides - Integrate subject-specific research guides provided by the Brock library.

Mobius - A mathematical tool used to create and employ complicated arithmetic and scientific questions/equations.

Pearson - Allows instructors to link to Pearson learning materials such as textbooks, quiz banks, assessments, and more.

Top Hat - Direct integration with Top Hat, an engagement tool that fosters real-time participation via quizzes, surveys, attendance, and more.
