Getting started in Brightspace

This page contains a brief list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to help you get started with Brightspace.



What is Brightspace?  

Brightspace is Brock’s Learning Management System (LMS) where you will find various course components. Instructors can post lesson content, assignments, quizzes, announcements, etc., through Brightspace.

Brightspace is also used as a resource repository for departments and Academic Advisors.


Where do I find Brightspace?  

Go to brightspace.brocku.ca/d2l/home and sign in with your standard Brock email and password. Consider bookmarking this link for ease of access.


How do I login and out? 

Log in with your Brock email and password at brightspace.brocku.ca/d2l/home.

To log out, select your name in the top-right corner of the webpage, and then select Log Out.


How do I change my password? 

The username and password to login to Brightspace is the same as your Brock email.

To change or reset your password, refer to Brock ITS’ New Password Change and Password Reset Process.


How do I customize my user profile, pronouns, and picture? 

  1. Select your name in the top-right and choose Profile.

    1. Edit your profile and select Change Picture.

    2. Save and Close when done.

  2. Select your name in the top-right and choose Account Settings.

    1. Enable and set Pronouns.

    2. Save and Close when done.


How can I adjust the font, reading, and video settings? 

You can set system font size, video settings, date and time settings, etc.

  1. Select your name in the top-right and choose Account Settings.

  2. Set the desired settings or make changes to current settings.

  3. Save and Close when done.


How do I customize the notifications I receive?

Go to Notifications to customize notifications.

  1. Select your name in the top-right and click Notifications.

  2. Set the desired settings or make changes to current settings.

  3. Save and Close when done.


How do I view my Calendar?

  1. Navigate to the homepage, accessible via selecting the Brock University Logo in the top left of Brightspace.

  2. On the homepage select the Calendar widget located on the left side below the Land Acknowledgement.


Are there recommended or minimum system requirements for using Brightspace?

For an optimal experience that offers the ideal performance, accessibility, and security, it is recommended that all users access Brightspace with the latest version of a supported browser.

While it is possible to access a simplified view of Brightspace on your mobile device via the Pulse App, it is highly recommend that you use a computer-based browser for the best experience.
