The Media Library is a repository for multimedia files, mainly audio and video. It can be utilized by students and instructors alike to hold files to be used at a later date, either for assignment submission, content posting, referral, etc. To learn more about how to Insert Media Library files into various locations in Brightspace, see Insert Stufffile repository that students can access within Brightspace. It is attached to each user account and is not connected with individual course sites.

Any video or audio note created elsewhere on with Brightspace is automatically added to the user’s Media Library. The Media Library is accessible on a user-basis, it is not attached to any one courseThis will most likely happen when usingInsert Stuff when doing submitting video assignments. Previously submitted files can be accessed through the Media Library.

All members of the Brock community have access to the Microsoft Office 365 email and productivity tool suite. The suite includes OneDrive, which is the recommend method of file sharing and storage and stores all account-linked files from tools like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

The Media Library can be accessed by clicking

How do I add files to the Media Library

Once in the Media Library, files

Files can be uploaded from a computer or created on the spot using the Add button. The Use Upload File button opens computer files, to upload locally stored files and Record Webcam begins the process for recording to record and upload video and/or audio on the spot.

Record Webcam

Users must give Brightspace requires permission to use their access a device microphone and/or camera to create a recording (they should be prompted to do so). In the Record Webcam window, there are and will prompt if needed. This must be enabled to use the recording options.

The Record Webcam window provides simple options to start the recording using via the New Recording button , set the recording to (note the option for Audio only, ) and the Next button which is used to upload once the recording is complete to continue to upload.

Can I edit files in the Media Library?

Basic editing options are available by clicking for items created and uploaded within Brightspace via the ellipses (. . .) button on the far right of the filespage. There are options to Preview, Download, Edit, Rename, change the Description, and Delete the files.

When files are deleted, they are sent to the Recycle Bin , and then permanently deleted after 90 days.

Audio FilesBrightspace offers basic editing options for audio files, which can be done directly within the browser. Clicking

Options for editing include:

  • Optimize for Streaming - Revises the file to improve the streaming quality so users can play it directly in Brightspace, as opposed to having to download it.

  • Auto-Generating, Uploading, or Creating Closed Captions - Creating closed captions for files increases their accessibility for various audiences. It is highly recommended that users implement some sort of closed-captioning on their files.

Files can be saved as drafts while being edited.
