What is the Media Library?

The Media Library is a repository for multimedia files, mainly audio and video. It can be utilized by students and instructors alike to hold files to be used at a later date, either for assignment submission, content posting, referral, etc. To learn more about how to Insert Media Library files into various locations in Brightspace, see Insert Stuff.

Any video or audio note created elsewhere on Brightspace is automatically added to the user’s Media Library. The Media Library is accessible on a user-basis, it is not attached to any one course.

How to Find Media Library

The Media Library can be accessed by clicking the Admin Tools cog in the top right of Brightspace next to the profile icon, and selecting Media Library.

Adding Files to the Media Library

Once in the Media Library, files can be uploaded from a computer or created on the spot using the Add button. The Upload File button opens the computer files, and Record Webcam begins the process for recording video and/or audio on the spot.

Record Webcam

Upon clicking on Record Webcam, Brightspace requests access to computer camera and microphone options. The Record Webcam window is also opened. Users must give Brightspace permission to use their microphone and camera to create a recording. In the Record Webcam window, they are given simple options to start the recording using the New Recording button, set the recording to Audio only, and clicking Next once the recording is complete so it can be uploaded. Users are given 30 minutes per recording.
