Teams offers the ability to record lectures/meetings. The recording is turned into a video file upon stopping the recording or ending the meeting. This can help with recording information in a conversational or lecture setting.

The video can then be uploaded into a course site for students to view in the future.

Recording in Teams

Once in a meeting, a recording can be started by selecting the More button on the top navbar of the meeting window. The first option in the drop-down menu is Record and Transcribe.

Click Record and Transcribe to start a Recording or Transcription, at which point Teams will begin recording the meeting.

Participants should be made aware that the meeting will be recorded beforehand, so as not to catch them off-guard.

Once the recording is stopped, a video file is prepared and will become available from the Teams site shortly. You may wish to return later to allow the video to be fully prepared.


Downloading a Recording from Teams

  1. Access Teams through your Internet browser, or open your Microsoft Teams desktop app.

  2. Select the Teams tab in the right-hand menu. A list of your courses will become available, click upon the tile associated with a course to enter its Teams space.

  3. Open the Files area by clicking the Files tab at the top of the window. Once processing is complete, the video will becomes available in the Files area.

  4. Open Recordings > View Only. The recording can be located in the View Only folder. The title of the recording is based on the meeting during which it was recorded.

  5. Select the 3 dots next to the recording, and choose Download from the drop-down menu.


Upload the Video to YuJa

Once the recording is downloaded to your computer, it Media can be uploaded to Sakai through the Echo360 tool found in the text box editor in tools like

In Lessons, click Add Content

Click Add Content and then Add Text.

Clicking the Embed Echo360 Media button within the text editor's options will allow you to begin uploading your video.

Open the Upload Existing Media tab

Switch to the Upload Existing Media tab.

Click the Select Media button

  • Drag the Stream recording file into the Select Files to Upload area;

  • or click Select Files to Upload to search your computer for the Stream video recording you'd like to upload.

Click Insert

This step will create an embedded frame for your video. If you'd like to optionally modify the size of the video embed, other options are available in the Size menu.

Click Save

Click the Save button to complete the video embed.

Likely at this point you will see a Not Yet Ready screen, once the video fully processes (this can take minutes so you are free to go to other places on the Sakai site) your video will appear and is ready for your students to view.
