There may be circumstances where a student needs to be able to resubmit their assignment. Assuming the assignment is set to allow for only one submission, the instructor will have to go in and make changes to give the student the ability to resubmit. If the assignment settings are set to All submissions are kept, or Only the most recent submission is kept, the student will have unlimited resubmissions until the End Date.

Setting the Assignment to Allow Unlimited Submissions

If the intentions are to allow all students in the course to be able to resubmit an assignment, then the easiest option is to change the assignment settings to allow for unlimited submissions.

Note

Please note: There is no way to grant a singular student the ability to submit multiple times. If the assignment is set to allow more submissions, all students will be granted such ability.

Step 1: Edit the Assignment

Click the drop-down arrow next to the assignment name, and click Edit at the top of the sub-menu.

Step 2: Change the Submissions area.

Navigate to the Submission and Completion sub-menu along the right-hand side of the editor, submissions is near the bottom of the menu. Change the option to either All submissions are kept or Only the most recent submission is kept, both of these options will allow for unlimited resubmissions with the only difference being the retention of materials. If the instructor wishes to retain all files from previous submissions, they should select All submissions are kept.

Step 3: Save and Close

Save and close the assignment, now all students who have access to the assignment can submit more than once.

Deleting the Previous Submission

If the assignment only allows for one submission and the instructor needs to give a student a chance to resubmit, they will have to delete the student’s previous submission to allow them to submit in the same assignment as everyone else.

Step 1: View Submissions

Submissions can be viewed for any particular assignment by clicking the drop-down arrow next to the assignment, and clicking View Submissions.

Step 2: Find the student’s submission

Instructors can either search for the student in the search bar, or find them in the list of submissions.

Step 3: Click the Delete button next to the submission

Next to every submission is a trashcan icon in the Delete column. By clicking this, the student’s submission can be deleted.

Note

Please note: Once deleted, the previous submission cannot be recovered.

Delete icon highlighted to the right of student submission
