The Question Library is an online repository that stores and archives questions which can be reused within a Brightspace site. Create multiple collections within the Question Library to organize questions by type and topic, making it easier to locate questions for quizzes, surveys, and self-assessments.
Access Question Library
On the navbar, click Quizzes, Surveys, or Self Assessments.
From the tool navigation, click Question Library.

Featured Buttons:
New - Select this option to create folders “Sections” and questions.
Import - Select this option to import questions from existing in a assessment on your Brightspace site
Done Editing Questions - Save and exit the Question pool library
Creating New Questions in the Question Library
Best practice for question storage, organization, and easy access, it is recommended to create all questions using the Question Library.
Select New then select what item you’d like to add to the library.

It is recommended to create all questions using the Question Library for ease of access, efficiency, and proper storage. It will make building new assessments easier, as questions can be pulled from the Question Library for quizzes, self-assessments, and surveys.

Question Types in Brightspace
Question Type | Description | Grading and Features |
True/False (T/F) | True or false is a type of question where the student indicates whether a statement is truthful or not. | Automatic |
Multiple Choice (MCQ) | Multiple choice questions give students multiple possible answers to a question and asks them to select the correct or best answer. | Automatic |
Multi-Select (MS) | Multi-select is a type of question where the student selects one or more correct answers from a group of possible answers. | Automatic |
Written Response (WR) | In Brightspace, written response (formerly known as long answer) is a type of question that is more than a few words long. It is an open-ended text response. Files can be uploaded in the responses for this question type. | Manual Allows files to be uploaded |
Short-Answer (SA) | A short answer question is a type of question where the student responds to a prompt with a short, one or two-word text response. Traditionally, many people think of a short answer question as a sentence or two in length, but for the short answer question type in Brightspace, it can be automatically graded, and for this reason, is shorter. Instructors who want longer, open-ended responses should look to Written Response questions. | Automatic |
Multi-Short Answer (MSA) | Like the short answer question, multi-short answer is a few short-word text responses. It is well-suited for situations that require an answer in the form of a list. | Automatic |
Fill in the blanks (FIB) | A fill in the blanks question is a question type where the student has to insert the correct response into a blank space in order to complete a sentence. There can be more than one blank in this question type, and it can be automatically graded. | Automatic |
Matching (MAT) | Matching questions ask students to pair correct items together for points. For example, students may be asked to match a term to its proper definition or a date to its event. | Automatic |

Select New.
Choose the desired question type in the drop-down menu.
Add the question details and select the desired question properties.
Click Save or in the drop-down beside the save button, select Save and New or Save and Copy.
When ready to exit the Question Libraryin the top right corner select Done Editing Questions.
