There may be circumstances where a student needs to be able to resubmit their assignment. Assuming the assignment is set to allow for only one submission, the instructor will have to go in and make changes to give the student the ability to resubmit. There are a couple ways to accomplish this in Brightspace.

Deleting the Previous Submission

Consider splitting into two articles, one covering quizzes and one covering assignments:

Assignments:

  • Deleting Previous Submission

Quizzes:

  • Deleting Quiz attempt

  • Manage Special Access, granting more attempts

Manage Special Access

Students can be granted special access to an assignment where the instructor can give them an additional chance to submit the proper files, even after the due/end date for the assignment has passed. This is done in the Manage Special Access area.

Step 1 - Begin editing the assignment

Click If the assignment only allows for one submission and the instructor needs to give a student a chance to resubmit, they will have to delete the student’s previous submission to allow them to submit in the same assignment as everyone else.

Step 1: View Submissions

Submissions can be viewed for any particular assignment by clicking the drop-down arrow next to the assignment name, and click Edit at the top of the sub-menuclicking View Submissions.

Step 2

- Click Manage Special AccessManage Special Access is found within the Availability Dates and Submissions sub-menu on the right-hand side of the assignment editor

: Find the student’s submission

Instructors can either search for the student in the search bar, or find them in the list of submissions.

Step 3

- Click Add Users to Special Access

Keep Allow users with special access to submit outside the normal availability dates on this folder selected. This will make sure that all other students are required to submit during the proper start and end date of the assignment, while users with special access can be given a separate time (even if the assignment is past due for everyone else).

Step 4 - Tailor

: Click the Delete button next to the submission

Next to every submission is a trashcan icon in the Delete column. By clicking this, the student’s submission can be deleted.

Note

Please note: Once deleted, the previous submission cannot be recovered.
